Drink driver caught in Park Gate on day after campaign launch

A 40-year-old Segensworth man has been fined and banned from driving after being arrested in Park Gate while twice the legal alcohol limit the day after the launch of the annual Christmas drink drive campaign.

Sherman McNamara was behind the wheel of his Mercedes vehicle when he was pulled over in Southampton Road by police on December 2 – the day after the launch of the Hampshire Constabulary Smashed campaign.

McNamara, of Orpine Close, had 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was breathalysed. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He admitted drink driving when he appeared before Fareham Magistrates and was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £740. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £74 and £85 prosecution costs.
