Swanwick rail station has been re-accredited with a national secure and safe station status.
The station is one of 24 South West Trains stations under the accreditation scheme, which is led by the British Transport Police, in conjunction with the Department for Transport.
The national scheme was designed to recognise measures taken to improve station security and reassure passengers and staff that consistent efforts are being made to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.
In addition, all 29 of South West Trains’ secure car parks have now been re-accredited with Park Mark status, an initiative led by the Association of Chief Police Officers which recognises measures taken to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.
Matthew Winnie, Head of Security and Revenue Protection for South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance, said: “It’s great news that these additional 24 stations have been re-accredited and we’re pleased that so many passengers can continue to enjoy a safe journey with us.
“It’s even more pleasing that our passengers are noticing the improvements we are making. The most recent independent national passenger survey demonstrated that passenger satisfaction with personal security has increased by four per cent since the previous survey.
“We will continue to work with the British Transport Police to make sure our stations and train services are as safe and secure as possible for the millions of passengers who use them every year.”
Swanwick and the other 24 stations have taken the total number of South West Train stations accredited to 103.
It fulfilled the criteria for the accreditation, which included a robust answer to all crimes, well designed station lighting, help points, easy access to telephones and alarms and staff had good station management in prevention training, incident response and communication.
