A 24-year-old man was given a curfew after police spotted a machete in his car in Park Gate.

Ricky Tony Henry Castle will have to wear an ankle tag from 7pm to 7am daily for one month for having the weapon in his car parked outside his aunt’s house in Badgers Copse.

Police had been called to the area on January 3 and, looking into the locked car from the outside, could see the machete handle. The blade was hidden under the driver’s seat in the car.

Castle of Ocknell Grove, Dibden, Southampton, said in interview that he had forgotten it was in the car because he had used it about three days earlier when he had been hunting with ferrets.

Castle pleaded guilty to possessing the blade.

Fareham magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the knife and ordered Castle to pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
