Medals and sentimental items were stolen from a retired Royal Navy serviceman’s home in Warsash.
Police are appealing for information after a set of medals belonging to the home-owner, given to him throughout his service in the Royal Navy, was taken from the home in Greenaway Lane.
Burglars also stole £200 in cash, a brass carriage clock, two gold bangles, a small collection of coins which included a number of florins, a 1920s silver dollar, a Queen’s Jubilee coin and a Greek commemorative coin.
The medals were RN Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, the RN Far East Malaysian Confrontation medal, the RN Middle East (ADEN) medal and the RN Cyprus medal.
The thief forced entry into the home of the retired couple, who were away for the weekend, and stole the items sometime between 12pm on Saturday (September 28) and 5.30pm on Sunday (September 29).
Investigating Officer, DC Tara Magnus of the Priority Crime Unit said: “This burglary occurred sometime over the weekend and I am eager to hear from anyone who was in the area during that time, and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious. Please get in touch.
“The medals are of huge sentimental value to their owner and I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about it or who is offered items like these for sale, to contact me as soon as possible.”
Police advised residents to keep their property safer by keeping valuable items out of view and not leaving items by windows where they can easily be seen.
